If you use a high-end professional grade finish system, either a quality hardwax oil or a commercial grade water-based finish system, like we do here at Tadas Wood Flooring, then you won’t have this issue to worry about. If you have bigger, more open rooms then it’s not as big an issue unless you have dark maroon or chocolate brown walls. Did they water pop the floors before staining? When working with maple or birch, you usually leave the stain on longer to achieve a darker result. And yes, I would definitely recommend looking into using a hardwax oil. one coat didn’t look good and a second coat was added and it too dark. What is the ratio? Also, looking at the Jacobean and Dark walnut on this chart, I can tell you that these actually tend to look much darker in real life on the real wood.
